Terms

These terms apply to the tea ceremony experience at aeru gojo in Kyoto, run by 株式会社和える (aeru). They do not cover aeru’s other services.

Booking and payment

The experience lasts 45 minutes, is guided in English, and is held for up to 10 guests at a time.

The price is ¥8,000 per person, and is free for children aged 0–2. Bookings and payment are handled through our booking system at the time of booking. Seller information and terms of sale are set out on our commercial disclosure page.

Cancellations and changes

Cancellation is free up to 24 hours before the start time, and no refund is given after that. Changes are also possible up to 24 hours before. Both are made through the booking system.

If we have to call off a session ourselves, we refund the full amount.

Arriving

Our space is small, so please arrive no earlier than 10 minutes before your scheduled time. If you will be using a wheelchair, please arrive 5 minutes before so we can assist you comfortably.

If you arrive after the start time, your experience will be shorter by however long you are late. The session cannot run past its 45 minutes, and no refund is given for the time missed.

Taking part

Children

Children are warmly welcome, and it is free for children aged 0–2.

Seating

Chairs are available for guests who prefer not to sit on the tatami floor.

Accessibility

Our venue is wheelchair accessible, and strollers are welcome.

Fragrance

Please refrain from wearing perfume or cologne, so that everyone can enjoy the aroma of the matcha.

Food and drink

The venue is not suitable for eating, and we ask that you do not bring your own food or drink.

Bicycles

Bicycles cannot be brought inside the venue.

Parking

We do not have a parking lot. If you are arriving by bicycle, please use the public parking spaces. The closest one to our location is here.

Our part, and the limits of it

We prepare the room, the utensils and the tea, and guide you through the ceremony in English. Hot water is used, and the building is a machiya of about a hundred years, so we ask you to follow your host’s directions during the session for everyone’s safety.

Your belongings remain in your care while you are with us. We ask that you take reasonable care of the utensils, which are handmade, and of the building itself.

If we are unable to hold a session, we refund the full amount paid, and our responsibility does not extend beyond that refund. Nothing in these terms limits any right you have under laws that cannot be set aside by agreement.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Japan.
